The headman’s handbook · A five-minute fireside read

Bread in every home. Coin in the chest.

Welcome, headman! Hold that hammer a moment. Feed a few households first — then dream of a village stretching to the horizon.

01 · Getting started

First the bread, then the grand plans

  1. A road and a few homes

Follow the opening quests. Connect homes and buildings to one road network. Keep enough money for the whole bread supply chain.

  2. Wheat field → mill → bakery → market

Fields grow wheat, mills grind flour, and bakeries make bread. The market helps get supplies to households. Check building inventories: a finished bakery with no flour cannot bake.

  3. Feed your people, then expand

Homes upgrade automatically when their goods and service needs are met. Open a home’s card to see what is missing. Next come water from a well and further needs.

02 · People & roads

The healer is next door. Why no visit?

“But I live just across the road!” — “Aye, but where does that road lead?”

Services have a coverage area, but the healer, teacher and other service walkers still need to pass near a home along the road. Nearby buildings alone are not enough. Branches make rounds longer; a disconnected road brings nobody.

  • Join the roads without gaps, and check the road beside the service building’s entrance.
  • Show the building’s coverage and watch its walker. Start with short streets and few unnecessary branches.
  • Carts move supplies between buildings; the market vendor distributes goods, and residents can go shopping themselves. Not every passer-by provides a service.
  • Wells are different: water depends on their coverage. No need to wait for a healer carrying a bucket.

03 · Karbovantsi

Where does the everyday coin come from?

Developed homes pay taxes in karbovantsi. The starting hut pays none, so a row of basic huts will not fill the treasury. Production and service buildings have upkeep: a new building can cost money before it brings any benefit.

  • Complete quests and claim their rewards.
  • Sell surplus supplies through trade. Keep food for households and raw materials for workshops.
  • Check the income and expense breakdown. If costs exceed taxes, waiting alone will not make you richer.
  • A few well-supplied homes beat a street full of hungry ones. Watch your available workforce too: an empty workshop will not save the village.

04 · Chervintsi

Chervintsi belong in a different purse

Chervintsi are a separate currency. You start with a small amount and can earn more by choosing to watch a rewarded ad when one is available. Tap the chervintsi counter in the top bar to open its panel.

Use them to hurry construction or exchange them for karbovantsi. Taxes do not earn chervintsi. Hurrying a bakery finishes the building sooner — it does not supply flour or workers!

05 · Declining homes

Why is my lovely home falling behind?

Higher-level homes need more things. A prolonged shortage of essentials causes decline. Services wear off too, so walkers need to return. Open the home, find the shortage and restore its supply — then give the household time to recover.

What each level adds
Earth houseFood — start with bread
Small house+ water
House with a porch+ healer and pottery
Large house+ tavern, school and cloth
Wealthy homestead+ church and meat

Earlier needs still apply! Vegetables can also replace bread. Your own home’s card is the best guide.

06 · Troubleshooting

Headman, something is amiss!

There is bread, but people are hungry

Where is the bread: in the bakery, at the market, or already in the home? Check market deliveries, connected roads and the arrival of a vendor or shopper. Goods somewhere in the village are not yet in a household’s pantry.

My building is doing nothing

Check that construction is finished and that workers, raw materials and storage space are available. Skilled homesteads also need a trained craftsperson.

A new building is still locked

Read its unlock requirement on the building card. Develop homes and meet the stated conditions — not everything is available on the first day.

Everything is ready, but the home has not upgraded

Allow time for deliveries, service visits and the next needs check. A nearby building does not provide an instant service. If a need keeps disappearing, make its supply reliable.

Not every village worry needs a new building. Sometimes a little piece of road will do.
